Dr. Lal Singh

Dr. Lal Singh is a Principal Scientist at the CSIR–National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), Nagpur, and an accomplished expert in Ecological Restoration, Bamboo Ecology, Bioremediation, Environmental Stress Biology, Microplastics, Phytoremediation, Biodiversity Development on Wastelands, and Plant Taxonomy. He obtained his M.Sc. in Botany from C.C.S. University, Meerut (2004), followed by a PG Diploma in Biodiversity Conservation from the Forest Research Institute (FRI) University, Dehradun (2005), and a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology & Environment from FRI University (2010). Dr. Singh began his scientific career as a Research Assistant at the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, and has progressed to the position of Principal Scientist / Associate Professor at CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur. With two decades of research experience, he has established himself as a leading specialist in ecological restoration, particularly through the use of bamboo-based strategies on fly ash dumps, wastelands, mining-degraded landscapes, and contaminated sites. He has contributed significantly to projects on phytoremediation using bamboo species, the ecological restoration of uranium tailings, and the economic valuation of natural and human-made ecosystems. One of his most notable contributions is the conceptualization and development of Eco-Rejuvenation Technology (ERT) - a scalable, bamboo-based ecological restoration model designed to rehabilitate degraded lands while supporting local livelihoods. His work emphasizes the integration of scientific research with field-based applicability, ensuring site-specific, cost-effective, and sustainable ecological solutions.
